Well, here we are a month or more into a new reality, one in which we practice social distancing, wearing protective masks and gloves, challenges to our financial and work situations and with no end firmly in sight.

It can be an anxiety laden time for many people, and yet, we see on an almost daily basis, reports of folks reaching out to one another, making contact in helpful and often heartfelt ways, so that we can ease one another’s burdens and lift each other’s spirits. The very essence of being a good neighbor.

One of the things I noticed in myself was a tendancy to revert to comfort eating to ease the anxiety I was experiencing. I realized this was not really what I wanted for myself and so it dawned on me to get back to basics. To rededicate myself to my morning and evening meditation times to drain those energies that were bugging me.

This doesn’t take very long to do, and with the way life is we certainly have more time to practice some spiritual hygiene. Grounding first and foremost, blowing roses and running my energy (shoot us an email if you are unfamiliar with these techniques), all help within 10-15 minutes to help me re-center and focus my attention on being in the moment. The body and emotions can really calm down when we do this. Mine did, and I found myself not going to the fridge for carbohydrate therapy. In addition, I’ve been utilizing a number of recordings to help guide my meditations…

The Rites of Spring

Long before there was a Christian religion or an Easter festival man greeted spring with joyful celebrations, says historian Edna Barth. During the Winter the days grew short when the sun stayed in the sky for a more brief period of time. People worried whether the sun might slip behind a hilltop and never rise again.

At the time of the Spring Equinox, when the days began to be more extended and the sun shone a little longer, the people were relieved. They had hope. Life would renew itself again and crops. animals and man would thrive. Life would be rejuvenated and would be prolonged.

Scholars say the people of long ago worshipped the spirit behind the sun who sent shining life-giving rays over the fields of grain. The sun became the symbol of resurrection. Happy, joyful Spring festivals were held for their gods. The Druids and others, would gather around blazing bonfire, chant, sing, dance and leap through the flames.

These ancient Spring fire rites honoring the sun and performed by pagans, were banned by the Christian church until 752 A.D. It was then that St. Patrick, while performing his work as a missionary revivalist, saw that the early Irish Celts and Scandinavians held spring fire rites, and were not willing to give them up.

In order to replace their "old" pagan custom, St. Patrick created a "new" Christian fire rite. Borrowing on the old Druid customs, on Easter eve, he gave them huge bonfires just outside the churches. Europeans soon picked up the practice of annually blessing a new fire and it eventually became a part of Easter service.

The fact that the holiday named for the goddess Eostre is traditionally celebrated at sunrise services suggests that in ancient times, the Vernal Equinox was a sunrise celebration. In fact, it tells us something about all the equinoxes and solstices, and that is that each is, or should be, celebrated at a specific time of the day; the vernal equinox at sunrise, because it is a celebration of new beginnings, the re-awakening of nature from its deathlike sleep of winter, and the very moment when the time of light becomes greater than the time of darkness. For this reason too, the rooster, whose crow announces the dawn, was sacred to the sun god Apollo.

Equinoxes symbolize equality (equal daylight and darkness) and balance. Spring is also a time of year to see what you have manifested, or what has sprouted in your soil (soul). Flowers or weeds? Did you forget what you planted during New Years? Looking around in nature at how things have blossomed and how mother nature has adorned herself gives you a good idea what is possible to manifest with the energy on the planet during this time of year.

The life force energy, Christ force energy, the Supreme Beings energy, etc. first draws itself down towards the center of the planet during Autumn. As it descends, leaves fall off trees; we begin to feel drained. In the winter at the time of the solstice, this energy reaches the center of the earth. During this season, energies are sorted. This intelligent energy then begins its journey back up to the surface of the earth. On the Spring Equinox, this energy completes its cycle to the earth's surface.

During this season of the year, we feel energized because we match or experience the same thing that the planet experiences. The earth's battery is recharged. Things that didn't seem possible to us during Winter seem possible in Spring, hope is alive again. More energy is available to us to create with. It is optimum to be aware what is going on during this time of year so that your eyes are fully open to all the possibilities of how to best use this quality of energy to your advantage.

At the Academy for Psychic Studies church services we focus on the energy level, or symbolic meaning that the Bible is conveying. This past church service the theme was "We are our neighbor" Here is a portion from the letter of James that deals with that subject, and its underlying message.

But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors."

James refers to the royal law. The royal law is the law of Christ. The reference goes back to John 13:34. Jesus tells His disciples, “ A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one to another.” It is ironic it is called the royal law, in that Jesus had no love of titles, especially that one. Being known as, the Son of God was fine for Him.

Why does James mention to not be a, “respecter of persons” and that it is sinful to do that? Again, he did not believe in titles in that, they do not make one person better than another. It is sinful to do that because you will be misperceiving when it comes to that person. When you misperceive you are not seeing clearly. That is one of the ways that we get ourselves in trouble. It is like having only partial information about anything and then making an important decision based on that information.

How we are educated is so categorized and fragmented. It contributes to us seeing differences and separation between our neighbor and ourselves. We study women’s history, black history, European history; the list goes on and on. We then identify ourselves based on our race, based on our gender, and based on our sexual identity. We see ourselves as fragmented into these various categories, no wonder we have difficulty seeing unity. We have one identity that is so often over looked. We are all spirit with a small s. It does not matter our religious background or any other identiy that we have been seeing ourselves. We are all a reflection of the Supreme Being. The spiritual meaning of son or daughter means a refection of the Supreme Being. So, keeping that connection in mind, we are also all reflections of each other. There can be no prejudice here. We are ALL children of the Supreme Being, not just some of us.

Here is a humbling thought. Only 10% of our cells are human in content. The other 90% are composed of bacteria, viruses, fungi and worms that live on us and in us, commonly known as our micro biome. This is true for all bodies.

Spiritually aware people know the truth that we are our neighbor, so we are all part of the One not the Two. A Chinese sage over fourteen hundred years ago knew this truth. His reply to seekers of truth who approached him was, “ Not two!” He knew that there was no division among us. It is only through fear, distrust and being out of alignment spiritually that we misidentify and see two where there is only One.

I will leave you with a quote from G. K. Chesterton. “ The bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people."

Hello.... what a great word. To me it means an acknowledgment. A recognition of someone's being. On this site and in our blog, we will be saying hello to our intuition, the ability to perceive, see, know or feel things about ourselves, each other and the world around us in ways that are subtle. William Duby, the founder of our school often said that spirituality is practicality.

We use our intuition all the time. We pick up on the subtle energies and cues from people we talk with that let us know how best to communicate with someone. We have a tingle that runs up our spine, and suddenly decide to take a different route than our normal commute. Later on we hear that we averted an accident. We have a hunch about a new job, new diet, new relationship and by following that intuitive whisper, we strengthen the psychic muscle by using it.
